Stay at Home, Your Groceries Will Be Delivered to Your Door

Jakarta. Having groceries delivered straight to your doorstep is one way to keep your refrigerator stocked and the coronavirus away from your household.
During the large-scale social restriction (PSSB), which will officially start taking place in Jakarta on Friday, people still get a free pass for essential trips to the supermarket.
But with the number of Covid-19 cases in the country constantly breaking the daily record and a vaccine still a long way to be found, grocery shoppers need to think twice before stepping out of the door.
According to the Communication and Information Technology Ministry, the country's internet usage has increased by five to ten percent since physical distancing was imposed.
The ministry expected the usage to skyrocket by 30 to 40 percent during the Idul Fitri holiday, which will fall in late May.
Trapped within their four walls, people are now relying more on the internet for work, entertainment and, yes, grocery shopping.
Although online shopping is always just one click away, shoppers sometimes still find their orders for groceries declined since their address is located outside a supermarket's delivery area.
In response, multi-format modern retailer Matahari Putra Prima (MPPA) has increased the maximum delivery distance for their WhatsApp-based grocery shopping service "Chat & Shop."
Previously limited by a 5-kilometer delivery radius, shoppers up to 10 kilometers away from an MPAA outlet can now also place an order.
"Chat & Shop can now serve even more customers nationally. Previously, several of our customers were unable to use the service because of the delivery distance limitation," MPPA's corporate secretary and director, Danny Konjongian, said in Jakarta on Thursday.
Deliveries within 5 kilometers will cost as low as Rp 15,000 (95 cents). From 5 kilometers to 10 kilometers, deliveries will cost Rp 25,000.
Chat & Shop is available at all MPPA outlets across the archipelago, including Hypermart, Foodmart, Primo and SmartClub.
Next-day home delivery service will also return with more non-fresh produce selections available at Hypermart Online, Danny said.
Both Chat & Shop and Hypermart Online will accept orders every day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
MPPA has also introduced Park & Pickup, a service allowing customers to shop without stepping out of their cars. This service is available during the opening hours only.
To encourage touchless payment during the pandemic, MPPA will soon expand their selections of e-wallets. Joining OVO, e-wallet DOKU will be available for online delivery services starting the end of next week.
