Jakarta. Westra Tanribali from Jakarta was appointed as Indonesia's youth ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations on Tuesday (29/08).
"I hope Indonesia's youth ambassador to Asean will be a role model, an inspiration, who will strengthen relations and help increase awareness about the association," Ministry of Foreign Affairs secretary general Mayerfas said.
Mayerfas was speaking on behalf of Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, who was unable to attend.
He added that Indonesian youth make up 30 percent of young people in the regional bloc and should take up the roles of agents of change, peacebuilding and tolerance.
The ministry received hundreds of applications from across the country for the youth ambassador competition, and chose 50 participants to attend the final selection at Balai Sarbini in South Jakarta.
The competition's runner-up was Scholastika Asyana from Yogyakarta.
The competition is part of a bigger effort to raise awareness among young people about the role and significance of the association, in line with the 2025 Asean Community Vision.
