Jakarta. Several people were injured in a suicide bomb attack on the police headquarters in Surabaya, East Java, on Monday morning (14/05).
East Java Police spokesman Chief Comr. Frans Barung told reporters that the bomb exploded at 8.50 a.m. at the gate of the police headquarters in Jalan Sikatan No. 1.
Closed-circuit television footage seen by the Jakarta Globe shows two people on a motorcycle being stopped at a checkpoint before the bomb explodes.
"There was an explosion; we are certain that this was from the motorcycle. There was a female passenger on the motorcycle," Frans said.
He added that several police officers and bystanders were injured in the blast, but was unable to confirm the number of casualties.
This latest incident brings to four the number of suicide attacks in the city within the past 24 hours. Thirteen people were killed and 40 wounded when a family of six launched attacks on three different churches in Surabaya on Sunday.
